Yesterday, Diamond said to me, "Everyone who likes 'Living' is going to love 'X.'" And I was like, "Dude, I love 'X.' The only problem is that I have no time to write it!" And she was all supportive and encouraging about, "No, you will, you will, it'll happen," and then I fell into the pit of despair.
(The story's title isn't "X," it's something else, but that's none of your business right now. Move along.)
Basically, my writing schedule looks like this: "In This Land" (updated weekly) "Sucker" (on-going series) Novel #2 (writing begins February 1st) Guys in Cars (no new writing there, but edit/revise/format process) Guys at Work (edit/revise/format) short stories for "In This Land" short stories for site #2 Novel #3 etc.
Things like "In This Land," "Sucker," ITL shorts, etc., are a constant, never-ending process. Those items won't leave my to-do list for years. Novels, of course, are a once-and-done process, not a perpetual cycle, but they do take time to write, and I'd like to complete more than one this year. (Fingers crossed.)
Anyway, because I'd like to be a professional writer, the writing that brings in money is put ahead of the writing that brings only joy, so "X," which is slash, remains at the bottom of the list. Which pains my heart. If only I had a landlord who preferred slash to cash... |
