Saving the world, one bouquet at a time [Feb. 2nd, 2007|01:03 pm]
Thank you all for your help with the costume thing. The party was terrific, everyone had fun with the theme, and I had a great time.

Monday's the next chat. February 5: 9-11 EST: Live chat with me, Stephanie Vaughan, James Buchanan, and TA Chase in the Fallen Angels Review chat room. I'm looking forward to it!

Happy birthday to [info]crossmymind!

I followed a link in my e-mail, and then clicked something else, and followed another link, and got to a page that struck me as so cool, I have to share it.

Spread this around, folks.

Send beautiful bouquets of organically grown flowers, and the proceeds will go to charity. I saw 28 charities represented, so I know that there's something in there you want to support.

I always believe that if you want to help out a charity, you should send some money to that organization directly. But if you're going to send flowers for Valentine's Day anyway, why not save the world in the process?

Brain lock [Feb. 2nd, 2007|06:22 pm]
I'm reading over "Sucker" part 87, which I intended to post earlier this week but have been too busy to get to. There are a lot of rough patches in it that I'd like to smooth over. I came across this line:

They discussed their plans for Ashley, which made Justin nervous for several reasons.

I'm really having trouble figuring out that sentence. The Ashley plot makes Justin nervous. Why?

Because he likes Ashley, I suppose. Because he feels bad for Ashley. Is that it? Is that all? Is there a deeper meaning to that sentence that I've forgotten about? It strikes me that there's more implied in that statement, but I don't know what it is.

Maybe it's just as simple as: Justin feels sorry for Ashley, and doesn't want him to get hurt. Or maybe he objects to, more specifically, what they're going to do to Ashley. But it makes Justin "nervous," specifically? Why nervous? Why not just afraid for Ashley's sake, or guilty for not stepping in to stop it, or something else?

Several reasons? Several? Why several? What are the several? Now we have to come up with three separate and distinct reasons?

I really wish that I could go back in time and tease more thoughts out of my brain, because this sentence doesn't make as much sense to me as it should. It really seems to imply things more strongly than it should.

Or am I reading way too much into one sentence?

I may be overworking my brain these days.

But why Justin? Why Ashley? Why nervous? Okay, Justin seems to feel an empathy for Ashley that he doesn't feel for Trevor, Erik, or Jacob. So that works; that makes sense. But nervous? And for several reasons?

I'm spending way too much time on one sentence, when I have a novel to write and much larger problems with the rest of S87, which reads as if I wrote it five years ago before I learned, you know, any subtlety or maturity whatsoever. So, I'm getting back to work. But if you read S87 and you don't find that line, don't be surprised.
