PR campaign [Feb. 7th, 2007|04:56 pm]
Okay, so this keeps coming up in conversation.

Sales of the new Seinfeld DVD soared by an incredible 7,000 per cent in the week following star Michael Richards’ racist outburst.

Black rights leaders in America had called for a boycott of the newly released seventh series in the wake of the comic’s on-stage tirade at a Hollywood comedy club.

But the appeal has fallen on deaf ears, as sales of the title on Amazon rocketed almost 70-fold – 6,925 per cent, to be precise.

A spokesman for the online retailer said: ‘It seems there's no such thing as bad publicity.’

The story is repeated in America where Sales of series seven are up 75 per cent over season six and 90 per cent over season five in their first week of sales, according to US website DVD Empire. DeepDiscountDVD.com reports an even stronger showing – a staggering 178 per cent increase over season six, which was released this time last year.

Let me ask you folks: Have you bought "Seinfeld" DVD's since Michael Richards publicly lost his mind? If not, does that have anything to do with what he did?

How much do you know about what he said? Did you hear about it? Watch a clip? Watch the entire meltdown?

I need to understand how you go from being offended to shelling out cash. Or were you not offended in the first place? What's the mentality here? "Wow, he shouldn't have said that, but I sure do think that sitcom's funny!"

How do you watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgmCBKPHnSY) and then say, "Man, I'd sure like to support that guy's career!"

(I can't watch it again, so I'll have to trust that the YouTube link takes you to the right cut.)
