Graphics [Feb. 16th, 2007|03:01 pm] I know that I can't write a Tiko love story or even a Tiko sex story, unless it's het, because someone in ITL has to be straight, and that job's definitely fallen to him, but sigh. It's tempting. I'm actually here to talk about something else, but I just posted ITL19, so Tiko's on my mind. What I'm here to talk about is graphics. Over the years, Diamond and I came up with several oh-so-hot super-super-sexy-wow layouts for SU, all designed around a rotating array of guys. Like, when you hit the boyslash page, you see a Nick layout, and then on the long stories page you see a Kevin layout, and then you go to short stories and see a Chris layout, and then you go back to the boyslash page and (gasp!) this time it's a JC layout! Every time we discussed it and planned it and plotted for it, it was awesome. Hello, it's Diamond, I would've had the hottest site on the Net. And now I look at Site #2, and I envision all of the wonders that Diamond could work there. But there's a reason that we never went with a graphically intense layout for SU, and that reason rolls right along to Site #2, too. And it all goes back to Diamond, and SU's inception in 2000. When Diamond showed up and saw SU back when it first opened, she liked it. Yes, it was minimalist, but my sites are about the stories. You show up, you read, and that's what you get. Making SU more graphically intense, we agreed, would be way beyond awesome, but we decided to maintain the less flashy style. So we sacrificed the eye candy, sweet as it was. Oh, so sweet. So I look at my sites, and I sigh, and I think of what could have been. And it's an ongoing struggle, because Diamond absolutely rocks, and I've seen some of what else she's working on these days, and I know what she could accomplish for me. But, in the end, I want you to come to my sites for the stories, for the fiction, for the writing. Not for the fancy trappings. (Although it would be really cool to have both. And so now I've talked myself back into wanting graphically intense sites. Why did I bring this up again? Why do I do this to myself?
