"The second book has begun," he says airily. "Questions?"

Oh, no! Not at all. Because we know what color the book is, right? That WAS actually listed somewhere, right?

RIGHT?!

Sigh.

Okay, people said that during the last book. Should I expect y'all to guess that everyone Orinakin meets is the future king?

How could you just skim over a visit to Nosupolis like that?

I don't like Jacacea, and I just know Heir Voe is Kudorin's husband, but how are you supposed to *like* the iceman? Is this some sort of scenario where Bade softens him up and Kudorin finishes him off emotionally (I haven't forgotten that Bad will bring Kudorin's husband to him!).

I still don't like Jacacea.

And I think it's Remin's book, but I'm not a hundren percent sure considering we spent most of the chapter with Orinakin and Bade!

I LOVE Jacacea! But I often spend time guessing which cultural and historical influences I see in each country. Jacacea reminds me of China or Japan, with a Roman Empire kind of feel. To me, they're the opposite of Orina Anoris: Stark, organized and scientific. I can't wait to read more about them.

Heir Voe intrigues me. What's he hiding? What made him so... not cold really but restrained? Is he the product of years of structure and realism without spirituality? If that's the case is Rini the result of spirituality without any real structure? Are they opposite sides of the spectrum? I make myself crazy with questions lol.

Also, it's refreshing to see Orinakin a bit frazzled, as frazzled as one can be born of a god with over 6000 years of history etched in the brain. I'm also glad that I still get to read this from Bade's POV. He's learning about this world just like I am and it's comforting in a way.

Can't wait for more Matthew. I've been reading for so long, I'm so proud!

Bade is invaluable in that way. He helps to introduce new places, new people, new ideas, etc., because he's an outsider like we are, so we can learn along with him. (Orinakin, of course, is the perfect complement to that, since he's our cultural expert and can explain all of this new stuff.)

Can't wait for more Matthew. I've been reading for so long, I'm so proud!

Thank you!

I know, that was terrible. But I didn't want to clog up the next book with Tales of Bade and Orinakin, so you'll get a short story or two to cover that.

Oh.

That's okay then.

::ceases grumbling::

Er . . . there will be sex in it, right? Like, awkward, first time in Bade's bed with Bade scandalised at the thought of having *sex* at *home* . . . and Vade *still* wishing Bade had bought him a bela or two?

::grins::

(You know, you need at least nine books for this - one for each of the seven . . . er, eight, sorry Rini . . . siblings, and one for Vade! He's a sibling too! ::demands equality - and belas - for Prince Vade!::)

Okay, I'll go out on a limb here. The razeic is gray and white and silver, which sounds very close to Rini's colors. Remin had his strongest vision right after setting eyes on Rini in the throne room. Rini is all energy and emotion and sparkle, and Heir Voe is basically a cold, stony, emotional ice cube. Who better to thaw him out? Opposites attract. Rini is still pretty young though, but I also think it might be too soon for Kudorin's story, so...Ahhh!

Are you going to put us out of our misery any time soon?

Still happily hanging on your every word...

I was debating whether to toss my two cents in or not, since you did say you were going out on a limb, but I hope you won't mind or be offended that I'm replying to your post, because it inspired quite a few thoughts. I simply want to add to the pot of speculation.

I really think it's Kudorin. Why?

1) All the talk about the gods wanting unity--what better way than for the Heir of Jacacea to marry the Pharaoh of Orina Anoris?

2) Kudorin is Heir Voe's opposite but also his equal; they're mirror-images of each other, and Rini could never be that. I agree that Rini is definitely "all energy and emotion and sparkle" but looking at him from what seems to be Jacacean perspective... that's all he will seem to be. Explaining to Heir Voe that he's "a gift from the gods" isn't really going to fly if Voe asks why he's so spoiled. I mean look at the way Anosanim is having to deal with the new workers under him, people not used to his effusive manners and his fashion sense. Rini seems to be Voe's opposite, but judging from Voe's family and possibly Voe himself (as well as Jacacean attitudes towards idleness and efficiency and personal feelings), Rini would quickly lose Voe's respect. He could never be Voe's equal. He doesn't have an office, and even he expresses that yes, he is a gift, but that doesn't give him anything to DO. Even his brothers get annoyed with his whining about it.

Kudorin, on the other hand, is Voe's opposite but also someone that Voe would undeniably have respect for. How could he not? He's a god, able to set himself on fire and perform miracles. Voe, even if he had been raised to disdain everything that Kudorin embodies (being a person who "spends all day talking about love and smelling flowers"), would be forced to at least try opening his mind to Kudorin simply because of respect for him. Rini is too easily dismissed as frivolous, young, and idle. Don't get me wrong, I like Rini now, but for sooo much of the Purple Book, he annoyed the hell out of me. I basically saw him the way Talin saw him. Of course that's probably a reflection of my personality, so take that as you will.

But in terms of plot, it would be quite difficult to see a romance between Rini and Voe. After all, he's traveling right now with his parents to who-knows-where. But Voe going to Orina Anoris to hammer out an alliance or at least open diplomatic doors (not even as one of Kudorin's suitors, though that situation would be best)--that would be the opportunity for them to fall in love. Kudorin and Voe can't just fall into each other's arms. They'll need time, to adjust, to change, to feel something for each other. And Kudorin needs time to melt Voe's "iceman" persona, as meridae called him.

Anyway, I hope that this super-long post gets taken well, and at least gives people more to think about. ^___^

Yep, I totally get what you're saying. My post was of first impressions and I'd never be offended by someones differing opinion. The thing is that if Heir Voe marries Kudorin, he'd have to move to Orina Anoris and that'd make it difficult to go back and rule his own land eventually. Orinakin and Rini are the only ones of the eight brothers who have the freedom to travel, and Rini could easily move to live with Heir Voe, although I'm sure he'd hate the separation.

We have a great many chapters to allow Rini to mature in Book Two, regardless if he's destined to fall in love this round or not, although I do still think he's a bit young for this.

I'm sure Matthew will make us love whatever pairing this evolves into, and all the speculation is fun!

You know, if Kudorin and Voe do get married... I think it would necessitate Voe giving the crown to the next in line. After all, it can't be the first time a first-born prince or princess has married a Pharoah, and when the subject of dowries came up during Bade and Orinakin's wedding, they talked about giving recompense to the old country of the new king or queen because of the acknowledged loss of a national treasure. Now that's a pretty huge obstacle to overcome--the loss of an Empire's Heir. Just the type of challenge to take up another 77 chapters! ^_____^ (I hope, anyway. I would love to see those two together--so much potential conflict!)

But I completely agree--whoever Matthew pairs up, I'm sure he'll make us fall in love with the idea of them together.

Matthew,

Is there anyway we can convince you to up stories to twice a week? I'd happily pay absurd amounts of money for twice a week.

I'm very excited. Since the first book mentioned the issues between Jacacea and Orina Anoris were brought up I've been hoping we'd get to see it. And I have to say, I'm very impressed and sort of love it (All the Jacacea hate! Come on guys its super crazy awesome!). Also, I think you do very well with descriptions. Sometimes when authors describe the scenery I get pretty bored. But you have this amazing way of making description very interesting and not the, "This goes here. This is to the left etc etc,." I'm very excited to see where you go with Voe. I'm already intrigued and amazingly interested to see how he developes as a character. I think him and Bade being friends would be just fabulous. The constant questioning and Voe trying to keep his cool has amazing potential.

Again, consider twice a week! That would be super. Great Job with the begining of the newest book. You rock.

You know, as much as I'd like to read this twice a week, and yes, would pay more to do so, I don't think I'd want to push Matthew to have to write that much - it's hard work writing that much, and doing it consistently and keeping the quality of the work at it's usual high standards . . . and life has an appalling tendency to interfere . . . and Matthew writes other things too . . . I'm actually amazed and totally wowed by the fact that in all the time I've been subscribing, Matthew hasn't missed a deadline yet! And I'm in NZ so a day ahead of you guys - but the update is always there by Saturday afternoon latest (it's often my reward for exercising).

Oh, I totally respect it - I write a bit myself, and should do much more than I do, and I know just how much work goes into it and how hard it is to put in that work consistently. *I* can't do it - my writing goes in fits and starts, I certainly wouldn't manage it, on time, week after week after week. I don't know when I first subscribed, but it was quite a while back now, and you've never missed a week. I think the only time you were even late was the day you had a car accident (I think). I very much appreciate it.

Now, I like the idea of "absurd amounts of money." That sounds pretty good. But I'm trying to write ITL and other things, and if I did that, I'd only write ITL. Which sounds fun, but my other characters in my other stories might object.

It's awesome that you've been hoping for some more on the Jacacean Empire. I was wondering who'd picked up on that. I've been looking forward to introducing this storyline for many, many reasons, one of which is getting to explore Jacacea.

Thank you for liking my descriptions. I want to give you a feel for the environment/location without getting tedious. (Most of the time I provide no description whatsoever, but I do try to describe the important settings, to give you a sense of the place.)

Thank you for your great comments.
