"Gone Country" and the storm puppy [Oct. 9th, 2008|08:56 pm]
First, "Gone Country." I didn't realize that the season was only seven episodes long. I've seen episodes one through five, but I haven't seen six and seven. CMT.com has full episodes on-line, and they're conveniently showing the five I've seen without showing the two I haven't.

Can anyone tell me what happened in the last two episodes? I know that one of y'all loves Chris enough to have watched it.

In other news, the storm puppy's miserable. It's getting colder, and he's seriously unhappy, shaking and shivering and whining. He has bad joints, and they ache, so he's in some pain; he squeals and he can't stand to be touched. He shakes uncontrollably in the summer when the air conditioning's too high, so I don't know what he's going to do all winter.

I got him a heating pad, so that should help somewhat. He needs something he can wear, and more layers for when he goes outside. I went to one store, and everything was too expensive and not warm enough. Kim tried to make him something from an old sweater, but that didn't work out. Unable to find him dog clothes, I got him a baby's zip-up sweatshirt, but it doesn't fit correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas? Any old dog clothes? I've been giving him some medicine for his joints, and some treats that are supposed to be good for dog joints, but he needs sweaters. I can't stand how miserable he is, and I don't know how to knit.

Edited to add, since you asked: He's 15 or 16 inches from neck to tail, about 15 inches around the neck, and 19 or 20 inches around his torso.

Edited to add: Make that 13 inches around the neck.

Poor storm puppy. Here's a catalog I order from sometimes. I haven't ordered clothes, but I have found that sweaters without anything around the back legs work best, and for boy dogs you want to make sure they don't go down too far on the belly.

One of my dogs has a sweater that just has holes for the paws instead of 'sleeves' and is easier to put on that way. I leave their sweaters on pretty much all the time (not at night, b/c they sleep under the covers) and then I put a LL Bean jacket on for going outside. Which, hm... they don't seem to sell anymore. That sucks, they're awesome. Waterproof and just velcro around the chest and neck.

Is your heating pad for animals? I have a plastic heating pad that I got at Walmart that I got for my arthritic dog, but which my cat lays on year round.

Good luck. Oh, and what are storm puppies dimensions? I have a drawer full of dog clothes and only two dogs. I'm sure they'd have hand-me-downs, if they will fit.

Also, does he have long hair? I've found that keeping my dogs' hair short actually keeps them warmer in the long run, because they don't stay wet as long, and don't leave wet spots in all their favorite sleeping areas.

He's kind of a medium-haired dog.

He's 15 or 16 inches from neck to tail, about 15 inches around the neck, and 19 or 20 inches around his torso.

Hand-me-downs would be excellent and hugely appreciated.

He's a little bigger than my dogs, but I have a least a couple of things that are almost new because they were too big. I'll look through them tonight at send you an email. ^___^

I left you an email at matthew at matthewhaldemantime dot com. I remember you having email troubles at one point, and just in case, thought I'd alert you.

In any case, I found a few things. ^_^ They should fit, if a bit snug. But snug is good, closer to the skin, and doesn't come off as easily when you want it to stay on.

Oh, in case I forget to mention it later, I have found that the easier way to take a sweater off a dog is to set them on their hind legs, then grasp the sweater on the underside of the sleeves, and pull it off their head and legs at the same time. If I don't do it quick, my 8 lb. female gets pissy.

Thank you! That's terrific of you, and greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm terrible about checking e-mail and even worse about replying to it. Sorry.

I'll practice my dog-undressing technique.

Did I measure the storm puppy incorrectly, or do you have tiny dogs?

You are welcome.^^

You need an assistant to presort your email. Then it would be less overwhelming. Your assistant could even take care of some of it for you, like 'why doesn't my password work,' or 'the link to my favorite story is down.'

My dogs are fairly small. Not teacup size or anything, but they are 8 and 11 lbs. Here's a picture of us in our winter gear. Probably you measured correctly, but if you want to recheck, here's a measuring guide. Storm puppy sounds just a little bigger than my mom's dog, so I used him as my 'model.'

So, I'd email them if I could, but barring the invention of a transporter, how would you like me to get them to you? ^_^

Again, thank you! The storm puppy and I really appreciate it.

Cute picture! Y'all are adorable. The storm puppy is nine pounds, maybe ten on a good day.

An e-mail assistant would be the best thing ever. Man, that would make my life easier.

9 or 10 pounds, huh? I'm feeling less confident about my size choices. I'm not sure I believe that a 10 pound dog could have a 15 inch neck. Would you mind remeasuring just to be sure? I have at least one small sweater that I tossed back in the drawer that my dogs never wear. It is yellow and non-flattering on my dogs, but it would be warm.

If you could check tomorrow, I'll get something in the mail to you on Thurs. I don't want storm puppy to be colder longer than necessary, but I want to make sure the hand-me-downs fit. ^_^ Thanks.

I don't suppose you pay in books? I might be interested in an arrangement like that. So might other people, if you'd prefer.

Okay. I don't suppose you checked the other measurements while you were at it?

I'll send some stuff, and hopefully some will fit well enough. Anything that doesn't, maybe you can give to a shelter or something. Okay? ^_^

Not news on Chris, but our beloved Justin J. He's huge into politics now and is on Ralph Nader's campaign? And a crazy blogger to boot? That's kind of awesome.

www.jefferspet.com has some of the most reasonable dog clothing I've ever seen, and everything I've ever ordered has been high-quality. My mom's minipin has problems staying warm, and she has two sweaters I ordered from Jeffers six years ago that are still going strong!

Right now Jeffers has a shearling suede coat (synthetic, of course, but storm puppy won't notice!) that would fit your pup for under $15. They also have lots of doggy sweaters, shirts, coats, thermal underwear (no, I'm not kidding! lol), raincoats, rugs, and even pajamas that would fit him for even less. :-)

*sigh* I'm a horrible Chris lover and cannot get myself to watch Gone Country :( Nor have I been able to get myself to watch Dancing With The Stars...the fact that it had a 3 night season opening turned me off to the show completly.

I'm such a bad fan :(

Gone Country

Episode six: Everyone had to sing for JR to showcase what they would be performing the next night. Mikayla's song was alright but she doesn't enunciate her words too well. Chris's song was awesome, very fitting for where he is in his life right now. When JR asked him what this competition meant to him, he made the mistake of saying that he had a recording studio in his house and the way he said it made it sound like he didn't care if he won or not (big oops!). Jermaine's song was nice, but not very country sounding and it gave me the impression that he'd already had this song in the works before the show. Sean did very well for not being a singer. She went up there and belted it out with a lot of confidence. Lorenzo did pretty good too. Sebastian had two songs to perform, not sure of which he would choose. One was rockabilly/bluegrass sounding and the other was more of a ballad. He kept insisting that he wanted to do both. JR said everyone did well and to get ready for the next night.
Afterwords, Chris went to talk to JR and let him know that he did take the competition seriously and he really felt that this was a turning point for him professionally. I think JR understood more of where Chris was coming from.

Episode 7: The finale was an hour show. Performance night.

All day everyone's getting ready for the show. Sebastian is still wanting to do both songs. He tried to get everyone to go along with it, having everyone sing the last one together. No one buys in. They do soundcheck and get ready. Walking up the red carpet into the Wildhorse Saloon, each cast member is greeted by family memebers. Chris' mom comes to see him (yay!)

The performances: Mikayla's performance basically sucked. Her song was about being sick and tired of dealing with a drunk boyfriend and she brought up an 8 year-old girl up on stage with her. She also tried to play JR into her performance and got in his face and grabbed his hat.
Chris did really well but kinda put himself in an awkward spotlight before he sang when he told JR that his "boots are really uncomfortable", refering to the boots in his room day 1.
Jermaine does his song, still good but still doesn't sound country.
Sean goes out and blows everyone away by coming out strong and rockin' out. I think she's the one that made the most personal growth on the show. That's pretty cool for two weeks.
Lorenzo rocks the house. He has good showmanship.
Sebastian takes the stage and no one knows what he's going to do still. He sings the ballad (the better of the two in my opinion) and leaves it at that. Everyone comes out on stage and rocks out the closing with JR (I don't think they actually sang though).

Decision time: JR had some record and radio people in the audience to critique the performances and help him make a decision for who is going country. Two people stood out the most for them, Jermaine and Sebastian. From there, JR chose Sebastian. Mikayla was the most shocked of the bunch by the decision. I think Chris was hit kinda hard too. You could tell that they really wanted it.

The last part was just everyone talking about what they are taking from this experience. Chris said something about returning to Nashville and continuing writing and recording. So maybe he'll go country on his own. He has a good voice for it!

I think I covered it all. Sorry if it's too long for ya. I hope you get to watch it for yourself. Try youtube. Sometimes shows pop up there too. I can never watch anything online with this dinosaur of a computer so I can't check for you.
